Oil is the lifeblood of any engine, and keeping it clean is essential to ensure that your engine performs optimally. One of the key components of an engine's lubrication system is the oil filter, which removes contaminants from the engine oil before they can cause damage to the engine.

What is a Cartridge Oil Filter?

A cartridge oil filter is a type of oil filter that uses a replaceable filter element (or cartridge) to trap contaminants from the engine oil. Unlike spin-on filters, which are self-contained units that include both the filter element and the housing, cartridge filters require a separate housing that holds the filter element. The housing is usually made of metal or plastic and may incorporate a bypass valve to allow oil to flow through the filter even if the element becomes clogged.

How Does a Cartridge Oil Filter Work?

A cartridge oil filter works by directing the engine oil through the filter element, which is typically made of cellulose, synthetic fibers, or a combination of the two. As the oil passes through the filter element, contaminants such as dirt, metal particles, and sludge are trapped, while the clean oil flows through to lubricate the engine's moving parts.
